The CTBUH Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat based in Chicago, is a nonprofit Organism that handles currently studying Tall buildings around the world —from 10 to 12 plants—. This important Organism offers annual awards in 8 different categories: 6 reward excellence in design and construction and the other 2 to the entire career of an architect or engineer, however, the first 4 prizes listed represent Best Tall Building the Four Continents. In 2012 they created the category "Innovation Award".

CTBUH Global Icon Award, which so far only received the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010, aims to reward high buildings "only" that caused a great impact on society at large, not only regionally but throughout the world, in which, apart from its great architecture, are valued as other important aspects of innovation in the planning, design, implementation and Urbanism, this award will be given only every 10 or 15 years and is only granted by the Board Members of the Council, there is no project submission in this case, and will only be given when he deserves an exceptional building.
