above, original sketches made by the architects, where you can see the interesting upper completion pitched roof and the idea of reducing the volume at its base to enable new church plant, down diagrams representing the building from all points of view. The sharp division of the facade into three parts, base, shaft and top, made him, along with the AT & T Building (Sony Tower) designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, in one of the first buildings postmodern city of New York.

The program hybrid (mixed-use) of the building at street level included the newly built church, a shopping center and the connection to the existing metro network by a new station, as shown in the image, below , drawing the curtain wall with contrasting lines formed by aluminum panels and reflective glass.

above plane of elevation and section of the structural scheme with features diagonal beams load type "Chevron" V-shaped, with the tip of the V directed loads to the foundation through the four huge pillars that have been strategically placed in the middle of each side, with this revolutionary idea is able to create a large completely open space around the building at street level, earning the city well field.

The beautiful skyscraper, which dates from the Super-High (Super High) that elapsed between the years 1965-1980 and it was built in a recession due to the first oil crisis, became the emblem of the city's economic recovery , a LEED system installed on the facade emphasizes its iconic figure and edgy night.

Located in Midtown East, near the Seagram Building by Mies van der Rohe, in Manhattan, New York, with its 45 degree pitched roof and modern and innovative design in white, the Citicorp Center has become one of the most recognizable and distinctive buildings of this great city. One of the interesting characteristics of urban planning project for the construction of the new headquarters of Citibank, was that it had to consider the inclusion of a new church plant in a corner occupying 30% of the site, the former Lutheran Parish St. Peter, which had to be demolished to build the new-had been in place since 1862. The fact that the main body is destined for offices to 35 meters high by four massive soil pillars located in the middle of each side, which crease helped a large audience space greatly descongestionaba density city.

The Citicorp Center in New York has a hallmark and is completely recognizable in the skyline of the city, thanks to its high altitude and postmodern design with its characteristic white figure hunched upper completion, which clearly differentiates it from other buildings parallelepipeds formed nearby, down, anti-dive great view at street level with the distinctive cut of the facade.

The characteristic of the structure start leaving a large gap that is giving way to the city, makes the building look almost levitate above the ground below, great waterfront skyline from New Jersey in which to appreciate some of the most representative buildings city of New York, from left to right are the Chrysler Building, the United Nations Building, the Trump World Tower and the Citicorp Center.

At first toyed-by-team architects the possibility to accommodate energy saving solar panels on the roof inclined to supply clean energy to the building itself, while providing it with apartments on the top of termination superior, both ideas were not misguided by the cover in the first case and the second because the existing planning regulations at the time did not allow the construction of residences that high. Finally a great machine stayed on top among which is a mass balance cushion, which made the Citicorp Center in the first skyscraper in the United States to employ a complex device of this type. The innovative system consists of dampers that are activated automatically by computer-controlled sensors that counteract the possible movements of the building caused by strong winds, typhoons or earthquakes.

At the start of the structure, four massive pillars located in the middle of each side enclose another large volume of square and bevelled at its corners, which contains therein a large atrium inwardly facing transparent to all office floors. The base of the building was somewhat unusual for the time it was built, because after more than 35 years we still causes Citicorp same surprise.

One of the most characteristic features of postmodern style,-apart from the sharp divide the building into three sections, the eclectic character in retrieving historical references and anthropomorphic-configuration, is certainly a surprise. If the Citicorp Center in New York because this feeling watching the characteristic slanted roof from a distance, as we approach the building at street level, the perception is much more marked and striking if possible, as it makes it a unique building due to the innovative structure of the boot. The big plastic building with characteristic statuesque figure and the inclusion of this interesting building in the global collective skyscraper certainly make it one of the best buildings in this beautiful city.

The Church of the abstract new plant, and uses the metaphor of two hands joined in prayer with large vertical windows. The parish has a sloping roof in line with Citicorp oblique. The Church of St. Peter was well known locally for its Jazz programs, acts that have continued after its reconstruction.

The building is held up by the central core and the four pillars located in the middle of each side containing vertical distribution elements. From the main body there are four structural walls offices, one for each side of the facade, which is subdivided into six portions (each of 8 plants): this structure is formed by horizontal beams and inclined shaped steel of v which make the function more resistance to the wind. Furthermore, the mass damper device located at the top connected to a computer and which consists of a concrete block that weighs no less than 400 tons, thanks to their movement halved vibrations caused by the strong wind. The modern façade, composed of thin horizontal stripes with panels of white aluminum in contrast to other fine lines of reflective glass, clearly differentiate it from other city buildings.

Architectural curiosities:

- In 1978, thanks to the comment of a student, the building's structural engineer William LeMessurier discovered a fatal flaw in the structure of Citicorp, as screwed skyscraper were too weak to withstand wind gusts of over 130 km. at specific angles. To reinforce the structure, for three months an important team of workers conducted extensive welding work by 6 cm plates. thick in order to strengthen the junctions 200 of the structure you screw were assembled in the backbone of skyscrapers.

- Another fun facts and interesting of recent structural changes was that the workers own the office building did not notice any noise, and that the welds were made at night after the day's work.

- The vertical movement of the building by elevator two floors, odd and even helped win more surface to use it to offices.

- The steel beams inclined type v "chevron" that are imperceptible from the outside, but visible from inside the office floors.

- The architect Hugh A. Stubbins raised the idea of cutting the corners of the building as a base due to the need for the church of St. Peter,-that he should stay totally independent outside the bank's office tower and that was in one corner solar-and not lose its same location, retaining mid IXX century, in 1862.

- The existing huge rectangular frame at the top of the building on the north side, serves as ventilation of machinery and technical plants, among which is the famous mass damper.

- To enhance the feeling of great height at the base was set down in a seat amphitheater that provides access to the subway and airy atrium shower building.

- Opened in 1977 splendid, the Citicorp Center, with its nearly 279-feet-architecture, along with the Chrysler Building, the Empire State and the One World Trade Center, among others, remains to this day one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city of New York.
