¿Sabías qué...? La Estatua de la Libertad de Nueva York fue un regalo del pueblo de Francia a los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica en agradecimiento por la ayuda estadounidense en la guerra franco-prusiana del siglo XIX. El escultor francés Frédérick-Auguste Bartholdi recibió el encargo por parte de las autoridades francesas para la realización de esta gigante escultura que donarían posteriormente a la ciudad de Nueva York con motivo del Centenario de la Independencia de los Estados Unidos de América en el año 1886.

Did you know...? The Statue of Liberty in New York was a gift from the people of France to the United States in gratitude for U.S. assistance in the Franco-Prussian nineteenth century. French sculptor Frédérick-Auguste Bartholdi, was commissioned by the French authorities to carry out this giant sculpture that donate later to New York City to mark the centenary of the Independence of the United States of America in 1886.





¿Sabías qué...? Maurice Koechlin, ingeniero estructural de la famosa Torre Eiffel de París, fue el autor del esqueleto que sirvió de base para que el escultor francés Frédérick-Auguste Bartholdi pudiese añadir las 350 piezas de bronce que conforman la Estatua de la Libertad de Nueva York.

¿Sabías qué...? El escultor Frédérick-Auguste Bartholdi había encargado en un primer momento la estructura de la Estatua de la Libertad al arquitecto francés Eugène Viollet-Le-Duc. Al fallecer este antes de concluir el proyecto, Bartholdi decidió contratar los servicios de ingeniería y cálculo estructural a Gustave Eiffel.

Did you know...? The sculptor Frédérick-Auguste Bartholdi was commissioned at first the structure of the Statue of Liberty to the French architect Eugène Viollet-Le-Duc. Upon the death of this before finalizing the project, Bartholdi decided to hire engineering and structural calculation Gustave Eiffel.

¿Sabías qué...? Al menos seis ciudades americanas compitieron por quedarse con la Estatua de la Libertad. Gracias a Joseph Pulitzer, un inmigrante húngaro y editor magnate de la prensa, dueño entre otros del Periódico The New York World —el más importante de los Estados Unidos de América en ese entonces—, se organizó la mayor campaña de recaudación de fondos nunca vista en Estados Unidos hasta la fecha a través de todos sus medios de comunicación de prensa escrita, con la que se consiguieron suficientes donativos que llegaron de todas partes de América y que sirvieron para construir el pedestal, asiento de la enorme estatua; de esta forma, el sueño de Pulitzer se cumplió y la Estatua de la Libertad se pudo quedar finalmente en Nueva York.
