John Kacere, (23 junio 1920 - 5 agosto 1999), fue un pintor, dibujante y grabador de reconocido prestigio internacional. En 1932, (con tan sólo 12 años), el joven artista firmará su primera obra profesional. Entre 1938 y 1940 asiste a la Escuela de Arte de Chicago. Van Gogh, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Holbein o Ingres, serán algunos de sus artistas preferidos en este período. Tras ingresar en la armada americana, Kacere realizó su primera exposición en solitario en la ciudad que le vio nacer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Estados Unidos. Establecido en California durante los años de la guerra, se interesó por los artistas de vanguardia como Picasso, Miró, Klee o Matisse, entre otros. Tras dejar el ejército, entre 1949 y 1950, estudió Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Iowa. Aunque en los primeros años de la década de los años 50 del siglo XX muestre cierto interés por el expresionismo abstracto, será a partir de 1963 cuando adoptará un estilo totalmente realista, centrándose exclusivamente en la cintura del cuerpo femenino, enfatizando la figura sensual de la mujer a través de diferentes modelos de lencería sexy, —a un tamaño tres veces mayor que el natural—, que lo convirtieron muy pronto en uno de los principales precursores del fotorrealismo americano. Curiosamente, el artista siempre rechazó este término.

Su carrera como docente comenzó en 1950 en la Universidad de Winnipeg, Canada. Desde entonces impartió clases en la Universidad de Florida, Universidad del Estado de Arizona, la RISD Rhode Island School of Design, Universidad de Nueva York, la Universidad de Nuevo Mexico, y en la Cooper Union y la Escuela Parsons de Diseño, ambas en Nueva York. Kacere realizó diversas exposiciones en Nueva York, Paris y Hamburgo, y su obra fue acogida con gran aceptación en Europa. No obstante, en la actualidad sus obras se pueden encontrar en diferentes Colecciones, Galerías y Museos de todo el mundo. Es muy importante señalar que las pinturas de gran formato dedicadas por entero al cuerpo femenino vestido con lencería, obra de John Kacere, están entre los iconos más conocidos y memorables del fotorrealismo americano, y pueden equiparse perfectamente a la obra de otros grandes pintores adscritos a este movimiento como Richard Estes, Chuck Close o Don Edddy, entre muchos otros. A pesar de que su obra puede considerarse figurativa, se ha sugerido que sus enormes cuadros también pueden verse como naturalezas muertas, o incluso como paisajes.

En materia de arte, y a pesar de habérsele tachado de fetichista, la majestuosa obra de John Kacere demuestra que el tema de la mujer puede ser abordado con gran respeto y admiración. Asimismo, podemos considerarlo un auténtico "revolucionario", ya que fue el primer artista visionario en abordar este tema. La apariencia de sus cuadros denota un sutil erotismo, debido a las numerosísimas prendas sexy que adornan a las modelos, (muchas de ellas con transparencias), ropa de encaje o de seda, panties y braguitas, motivos bordados, bañadores y bikinis, así como sensuales ligeros, que nos sugieren verdadero arte erótico. Como reacción al expresionismo abstracto, y debido a la gran dedicación mostrada a partir de 1963 centrando exclusivamente sus esfuerzos en el estudio de la anatomía femenina, —y teniendo en cuenta que sus cuadros de gran formato parecen realmente fotografías—, podemos afirmar que John Kacere alcanzó la perfección y madurez de su carrera y de su arte. « La mujer es la fuente de toda la vida, la fuente de regeneración.
