Arquitectura de Florida: 100 Años. 100 Lugares.


Con motivo del 100 Aniversario del Estado Americano de Florida 1912—2012, el Instituto Americano de Arquitectos (AIA Florida) ha organizado recientemente un Top 100 de los Edificios más representativos de esta sureña región. Para tal fin, sólo en cuatro semanas se recibieron más de 2,4 millones de votos, lo que demuestra el gran interés mostrado en la Arquitectura por parte del pueblo de Florida. Los ganadores se dieron a conocer el 18 de Abril de 2012 en el Hotel Fountainbleau Miami Beach, verdadero icono arquitectónico que cambió el skyline de la ciudad de Miami y que además recibió el primer premio. Este importante hotel, en donde han intervenido distintos arquitectos a lo largo de la historia y que se construyó en diferentes fases, fue desarrollado entre 1953 y 2003.






La idea consistía en crear una nueva lista con los 100 edificios más importantes y representativos de Florida, no sólo por su belleza arquitectónica en sí misma, sino además, por el gran valor simbólico que han aportado a lo largo del Centenario. Destacan en la lista edificios como el Hotel Delano estilo Arte Deco, que además pertenece a la lista AIA 150 de la Arquitectura Favorita Americana. Este importante hotel ubicado en el centro de South Beach y que atrae a numerosos personajes famosos durante todo el año, fue renovado en 1995 por el prestigioso arquitecto, creador y diseñador Philippe Starck, quien consiguió reunir una gran colección de mobiliario y objetos de artistas tan destacados como Antoni Gaudí o Salvador Dalí, entre otros.

Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places.


To mark the 100th Anniversary of the American State of Florida 1912—2012, American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida) recently organized a Top 100 of the most representative Buildings of this southern region. To this end, only four weeks received more than 2.4 million votes, which shows the great interest shown in Architecture by the people of Florida. The winners were announced on April 18, 2012 at the Fountainbleau Hotel Miami Beach, a true architectural icon that changed the skyline of Miami and also received the first prize. Leading hotel, where different architects have been involved throughout history and are built in several stages, was developed between 1953 and 2003.






The idea was to create a new list of 100 most important and representative buildings in Florida, not only for its architectural beauty in itself, but also by the great symbolic value they have provided along the Centennial. Listed buildings stand out as the Delano Hotel Art Deco style, which also belongs to the AIA 150 list of Favorite American Architecture. Leading hotel located in the heart of South Beach and attracts numerous celebrities throughout the year, was renewed in 1995 by renowned architect, creator and designer Philippe Starck, who brought together a large collection of furniture and objects of artists luminaries such as Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí, among others.
