La construcción del Hotel Silken Puerta América fue fruto de la colaboración creativa de diecinueve estudios de trece nacionalidades distintas entre arquitectos, diseñadores y artistas considerados de entre los mejores del mundo. El enorme reto de este interesante proyecto se pudo llevar a cabo gracias a la propia iniciativa de la directiva de esta importante cadena de hoteles, quienes tuvieron el sueño y la gran ilusión de poder erigir un hotel único e inigualable consiguiendo aunar así diferentes modos de ver la arquitectura, la cultura, el diseño y el arte a través de un único y sorprendente edificio. El majestuoso Hotel de 5 estrellas se encuentra localizado en el noreste de la ciudad de Madrid, concretamente en el número 41 de la Avenida de América, junto a la conocida obra de las Torres Blancas, obra del arquitecto Sáenz de Oiza.

La estructura del edificio corrió a cargo del Estudio SGA, auténticos especialistas en el diseño estructural de numerosos hoteles hasta la fecha, quienes idearon un esqueleto de hormigón armado con dos enormes alas laterales y un núcleo central compuesto por un lobby frente al bloque de ascensores panorámicos. Estas alas laterales cuentan con un pasillo central que organiza el acceso a las habitaciones y suites que se sitúan a ambos lados. La forma de las 14 plantas del edificio están inspiradas en un “sistema diédrico formando un ángulo de 150º”. El prestigioso arquitecto Jean Nouvel, Premio Pritzker ( Novel de la Arquitectura ) en 2008, fue el artífice y diseñador del exterior del edificio, el ático y las 12 suites que conforman la planta número 12. La colorida fachada cambia durante el día gracias a unos toldos de colores que le dan movilidad y dinamismo al conjunto; enormes fragmentos de texto del poema Libertad de Paul Éluard ( 1885-1952 ) escritos en diferentes idiomas, embellecen también la vanguardista fachada.

En el interior, otros arquitectos destacados como Norman Foster, David Chipperfield o Zaha Hadid, y artistas y diseñadores como Victorio & Lucchino o Javier Mariscal entre otros, se hicieron cargo del diseño interior de este inconfundible hotel, en el que arquitectura, diseño, arte y cultura se han unido de la mano para crear uno de los mejores exponentes de la arquitectura contemporánea de nuestro tiempo. En la construcción del Hotel Puerta América que contó con un presupuesto de nada menos que 75 millones de euros, llegaron a trabajar hasta 650 personas en algún momento. Una escultura realizada en hierro con forma de hoz de unos 5 metros de altura y de color rojo que se sitúa en un parque anexo al propio hotel, fue diseñada por el prestigioso arquitecto modernista por excelencia, Oscar Niemeyer.

The construction of the Hotel Silken Puerta America was the result of creative collaboration of nineteen studies of thirteen different nationalities among architects, designers and artists considered among the best in the world. The enormous challenge of this exciting project could be carried out thanks to the initiative of the Directors of a major hotel chain, who had the dream and the great hope of being able to erect a one and only hotel pool and getting different views architecture, culture, design and art through a unique and striking building. The majestic five-star hotel located in the northeast of the city of Madrid, particularly at number 41 Avenue of the Americas, with the famous work of White Towers, designed by architect Sáenz de Oiza.

The structure of the study was carried out by EMS, real specialists in the structural design of numerous hotels to date, who devised a reinforced concrete frame with two enormous wings and a central core composed of a block facing the lobby panoramic elevators. These wings have a central corridor that organizes access to rooms and suites are located on both sides. The shape of the 14 floors of the building are inspired by a "system forming a dihedral angle of 150 º." The renowned architect Jean Nouvel, Pritzker Prize (Novel of Architecture) in 2008, was the architect and designer of the exterior of the building, the attic and 12 suites that make up the 12th floor. The colorful facade changes during the day thanks to a colored awnings that give mobility and dynamism to the whole, huge chunks of text from the poem by Paul Eluard Freedom (1885-1952) written in different languages, also adorn the front cutting edge.

Inside, other prominent architects such as Norman Foster, David Chipperfield and Zaha Hadid, and artists and designers Victorio & Lucchino and Javier Mariscal and others, took charge of the interior design of this distinctive hotel, where architecture, design, Art and culture have joined hand in hand to create one of the best examples of contemporary architecture of our time. In the construction of the Hotel Puerta America, which had a budget of no less than 75 million euros, came to work up to 650 people at some point. A sculpture made in iron with a sickle of about 5 feet high and red is situated in a park annex to the hotel itself was designed by the renowned Modernist architect par excellence, Oscar Niemeyer.
